Mathematics is an essential part of everyday life in society, from the early days of civilization to our present day. If you tell that to a student today, you will get the famous question, “How or where would we use the math learned in school in the real world?” My answer is simple. I can tell you not only one, but FIVE ways we use math everyday:
- Cell Phones
- Statistics
- Event Planning
- Banking
- In the kitchen
With all these numerical concepts around us, there is a need for teachers that can break them down into simpler terms so that others can understand and enjoy the role that math plays in our world. I wanted to be a math teacher because of my love of math, which is an intriguing and diverse subject. Most importantly, I wanted to teach those who are struggling to comprehend mathematics and awaken a sense of appreciation for the subject by providing a realistic view. If students develop a mindset that pinpoints the relationship of math to their lives, it will help them absorb information easily.
